Auditions in Leeds for musical theatre programme that propelled Ed Sheeran to success

The British Youth Music Theatre charity is on the hunt for talented young performers from Leeds.

The leading musical theatre charity for young people will be bringing its National Auditions Tour to the city. Auditions are open to anyone 11 to 21 and require no previous experience or preparation. The charity will be at Northern Ballet on February 23.

Last year, Emeli Mumford, 17, from Otley, went on to star as the main lead in The Dickens Girls at the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich after taking part in the BYMT National Auditions 2019.

She said: “If you love musical theatre, BYMT is the best thing you’ll ever do. The main thing I’ve taken from my phenomenal time with BYMT is the professional atmosphere and professional persona it gives you.”

If successful in their audition, company members will work alongside the industry leading directors, musical directors, and choreographers to build a new musical show from the ground up.

BYMT is famous for shaping the careers of thousands of young people, many of whom have successfully entered creative industries and currently perform in the West End.

Their prestigious alumni include the UK’s Official Number 1 Artist of the Decade Ed Sheeran, Oscar award-winner Sam Smith, Charlotte Ritchie, Laurence Samuels and many others.

Performer auditions can be booked online at www.britishyouthmusictheatre.org/auditions or call 020 8563 7725.
