Mr Wilson (chairman of Leeds for Europe) states that as a member of the EU Britain punched well above its weight in the world.

Outside Britain will be a second rate power.

Surely as a member of the EU we were a 1/28 power and as such had no weight at all unless the EU accepted our proposals, which was not a frequent occurrence.

Since our membership the disadvantages that have befallen Britain have been notable.

1. The destruction and decimation of our fishing industry and allied trades, eg ship building, repair, fish processing etc.

2. Manufacturing industries that have been co-erced or forced to move to other EU countries through regulations passed by the EU eg, engineering, motor, electrical etc.

3. We have been forced by EU regulations to accept laws that have been detrimental to our culture, our society.

4. Our contributions to this club have far outweighed any monetary or financial grants whose spending is controlled by the EU.

Industrial and manufacturing jobs have been decimated to such an extent that the majority of employment is in the public sector or service industries.

In the letters page of November 23, Mrs Green succinctly explains some of the basics of the vote and why people opted to leave.

Her last sentence intimates what should have happened after the vote and not the debacle that lacklustre political remainers allowed to occur.

Does Mr Wilson actually believe that Britain will be able to take control of the EU as his way of thinking seems to suggest, or is he willing for Britain to be a puppet controlled by the strings of an unelected committee and president.

He says the EU has brought peace and prosperity to the member states – has he not been watching developments in Greece, Italy, Spain and others where opposition to membership continues to grow and will no doubt bring about the demise of that moronic institution.

Mr Wilson says that I talk about the disadvantages without naming them but he himself makes ambiguous assertions about his reasons for rejoining but never mentions them.

He has yet to list the advantages he believes we have gained from membership.
