When Sue Kelk watched paramedics take husband Jason to hospital from their home in Seacroft on March 31, she never imagined that he would still be there now.

What she could be certain of as a former nurse herself is that dedicated NHS staff in the city’s hospitals would do all they could to save his life and help him to one day return home to her.

Throughout this pandemic, the doctors, nurses and many others who keep our hospitals going have overcome tremendous challenges in order to provide the best possible care to those who have contracted Covid-19 as well as the thousands of other patients who would ordinarily seek their help.

When hospital boss Julian Hartley writes in his column today that he could not be more proud of the teams for their response to the pandemic, he surely speaks for us all.
