The additional strain piled onto local systems by Covid-19, lockdowns and resulting budget cuts have clearly had a hand in the increase.

And it is particularly sad to see at a time when so many families are mourning loved ones whose lives have been claimed by the virus.

Covid has brought inequality in Leeds into sharp focus and the Government must now do all it can to narrow the divide.
