Leeds German Christmas Market named in country's top five by VisitEngland

Travel body VisitEngland has put together a list of the 15 best Christmas markets in England.

Leeds Christkindelmarkt was placed at number five, only ranking below Winter Wonderland, Bath Christmas Market, Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market and Southbank Winter Festival.

VisitEngland said: "Browse through hand-crafted jewellery and festive decorations, tuck into authentic German food and feel extra festive with a ride on the popular Christmas Carousel.

"For those still feeling hungry, visit the Alp Chalet restaurant in the centre of the market, a Bavarian style eatery offering a delectable selection of traditional food and drink, alongside evening entertainment."

Leeds German Christmas Market is open every day on Millennium Square until Saturday, December 21.

Each year, the square is transformed into a scenic winter village, with over 40 traditional wooden stalls, indoors venues and the traditional Christmas carousel ride.

There is a daily programme of light entertainment on the open air market square and a weekly children's show on the covered stage each Sunday.

Children and families can join Santa in the Alp Chalet for a special Christmas breakfast, every Saturday and Sunday morning from November 23 to December 21.
