A canal lock in Leeds city centre has been exposed after being drained by engineers.

The 30-year-old gates to Lock One on the Aire and Calder Navigation Canal are currently being replaced by the Canal and River Trust.

The lock is located in Leeds Dock, close to the Royal Armouries.

A 60-tonne crane will remove the old gates, which are rotten and waterlogged, and the lock itself has been drained so silt and debris can be cleared.

Visitors can view the drained lock basin when it opens to the public this weekend.
