Police were dispatched to an address in Ingram Road at around 1pm on February 2 after reports that a 12-year-old boy had been bitten by a dog.

A spokesman said: "The boy was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to wounds to his face, after being bitten by what is believed to be a Pit Bull Terrier type dog.

"The dog was located and detained by officers."

Although the dog does not belong to a banned breed, police said it held some traits similar to a Pit Bull type dog.

The spokesman added: "It is in the process of being destroyed."
