The victim ran outside to try to get help from passers-by.

Pickering got up and hit the woman in the arm and spat at her and her partner.

Pickering shouted homophobic abuse at the officers and called them "demons".

The defendant had to be kept under constant watch for two hours as she continued to scream and struggle with officers.

Pickering, 34, of Beech Avenue, Peacock Estate, Wakefield, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating and four of assaulting an emergency worker.

Ms Abrahams said the incident happened after Pickering drank alcohol while on anti-psychotic medication.

Pickering was given a six-month sentence, suspended for two years.

She was also ordered to take part in a nine-month alcohol treatment programme and complete 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

"I do not know whether I am doing the right thing or not.

"With incredible reservations I am going to take a chance on you.

"Frankly you do not deserve it.

"The behaviour you engaged in towards members of the public and the police was disgusting.

"You were completely out of control due to alcohol.

"You were kicking kicking at them and attempting to bite people during a pandemic. You richly deserve to go to prison today.

"But you have pleaded guilty. You have a difficult background and clearly have issues and mental health difficulties.

"It is clear that you and alcohol and the medication you are taking do not mix."
