Man was asleep on sofa when brick came through his window

A furious man kicked his way into a home and demanded cash from the occupier as he beat him unconscious.

Aumair Ahmed was jailed at Leeds Crown Court this week after admitting ABH, criminal damage and using violence to gain entry to premises.

The victim had been at home in the West Park area of Leeds on the evening of May 15 when was awoken by shouting from outside and then the brick coming through his window.

It missed him but Ahmed was heard shouting: “Where’s my money?”

Ahmed then smashed in the door open with a single kick and began to attack the man, repeatedly punching him and demanding “his money”. The victim denied owing him.

The man fell unconscious, but when he came round, the violence continued with Ahmed dragging him towards the door in a headlock.

Ahmed then left. He was later arrested but gave a no-comment interview.

The 31-year-old, of Queenswood Drive, Headingley, has previous convictions, including drug dealing for which he was jailed for two-and-a-half years in 2016.

Mitigating, Celine Kart said Ahmed was genuinely remorseful and had been making progress in prison, having being made a wing cleaner.

Ms Kart said at the time of the incident, Ahmed had been grieving the loss of his mother to whom he was close.

Judge Neil Clark said Ahmed had been “pestering” the man for some time over money.

He jailed him for 18 months and gave him a five-year restraining order to keep him away from the victim.
