Angry thug attacked police and had to be pepper sprayed at Leeds children's nursery

He had to be subdued after refusing to leave

A thug attacked police officers who were called to a children’s nursery when he refused to leave.

Jermaine Jackson lashed out as they tried to restrain him, punching them to the face, before they tried to quell him with PAVA spray.

At Leeds Crown Court this week the 39-year-old admitted two counts of assaulting emergency workers.

Jackson had been at the Leeds nursery to discuss financial issues, which were quickly resolved, prosecutor Beth Richardson said.

But he then got into a heated argument with staff and refused to leave.

As he continued to remonstrate, staff called the police. When officers arrived, they also told him to leave, but again he refused.

They tried to cuff his wrist but he pulled away and began to struggle, lashing out and catching both officers to the head with punches.

They deployed the PAVA spray in a bid incapacitate Jackson, but he fled and locked himself in his car.

After refusing to get out, they smashed the window to arrest him.

Jackson, of Regents Close, London, then gave a no-comment interview at the police station.

A basis of plea was later given that he did not intentionally intend to strike the officers, but did so during the struggle. This was accepted by the Crown.

Mitigating, Esther Bukoye said Jackson suffers from fibromyalgia and sickle cell disease which leaves him in constant pain.

She said it was out of character for him to behave in this way and that he was remorseful.

The judge, Recorder Helen Chapman, said that no children had witnessed the scuffle , and that Jackson was “plainly ashamed”.

She handed him a 12-month community order with 15 rehabilitation days to complete with probation and a £90 fine.
