A predatory Uber driver has been jailed after he raped a student following a night out in Leeds city centre.

Kamran Khan was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court yesterday after being found guilty following a five-day trial of rape and assault by penetration.

The court heard how the 54-year-old preyed upon the “heavily intoxicated” student after friends and staff helped her book an Uber home.

Prosecutor Stephen Littlewood, detailed how Khan attacked the woman in his car after he stopped in a quiet spot near her home address.

He added that after spending almost an hour in his car, Khan, of no fixed abode, dropped the victim off at her house.

She immediately asked for help, telling her father “help me dad I’ve been raped,” the court heard.

Offering mitigation, defence counsel Kitty Colley said her client was of previously good character and had no previous convictions to his name.

She added that he provided for his family and that despite initially insisting the incident was consensual had now accepted what happened and was taking responsibility for his actions.

Passing sentence, the judge Mr Recorder Simon Jackson, told Khan that his actions were a “gross abandonment” of his duty of care to get the girl home safe.

He sentenced him to 12 years and six months in prison, and put him on the sex offenders register for life.

“You shall never be a taxi driver ever again,” he added.
