Ossett fire: Police investigate suspected arson after blaze broke out in a commercial unit on Kingsway

An investigation into suspected arson has been launched by police after multiple crews rushed to tackle a fire in Ossett in the early hours of Thursday.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to the commercial unit off Kingsway at around 6pm on August 15, and sent five crews to the building, which was fully involved in the fire.

Crews from Ossett, Wakefield, Cleckheaton and two from Dewsbury used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to combat the blaze, which was extinguished just before 7am.

West Yorkshire police were later informed of the incident by the fire service, and has since launched an investigation into suspected arson.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Police were informed by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service at 8.42am this morning of a fire at a premises on Kingsway, Ossett.

“An offence of arson has been recorded and enquiries are ongoing.
