Pervert groped girls and women during afternoon predatory spell in Leeds suburb

He was caught on CCTV

A pervert sexually touched three females after targeting them in the space of an afternoon.

Damien Hutchinson was jailed at Leeds Crown Court after admitting the assaults, two of which were caught on CCTV.

He has a long criminal past and was on a suspended sentence for dangerous driving at the time.

Prosecutor Philip Standfast said the first victim was a teenager and had been shopping in the Crossgates Shopping Centre.

She felt 43-year-old Hutchinson behind her when she was walking into Wilko’s, later telling police he was around a metre away.

He stopped and stared at her, before he brushed his hand against her bottom. She later said it could not have been accidental.

Hutchinson then appeared to follow the girl around the shop before he left.

A further person had been assaulted in a pub after Hutchinson made lewd comments and smacked her bottom.

Finally that day, at around 1.30pm, another female had been walking along the bridge over the railway lines in east Leeds when he walked up behind her and grabbed her.

She turned to face him and he put his hands up to his face, suggesting he had not done anything wrong.

He was later interviewed by police and denied sexual assault, however, the incidents in the pub and the shopping centre were caught on CCTV.

Hutchinson, of Deanswood Hill, Moortown, was bailed and provisionally put on the sex offender register, but breached it twice when he failed to adhere to the terms.

He was finally held on remand and appeared in court this week over a video link from HMP Leeds.

He admitted three counts of sexual assault and two breaches of the sex offender register.

In mitigation, it was heard that Hutchinson had been progressing in prison and had a job as a cleaner. It was also heard that he also had no previous sexual offending.

Judge Neil Clark jailed him for eight months, and activated seven months of his suspended sentence for dangerous driving, making a total of 15 months.

He was also put on the sex offender register for 10 years.
