Known paedophile spared jail is then beaten up in hotel days later

Pervert who admitted a sexual interest in children but spared custody was beaten up at a hotel for acting “inappropriately” with a young girl whom he then assaulted.

A convicted paedophile was attacked in a hotel for gesturing towards a youngster just days after he was given a suspended sentence for child-abuse charges.

Ben Bond from Wakefield was beaten up by a man who took exception to the way he was behaving towards a girl on the evening of March 14.

Drunken Bond was pulling faces towards the girl in the hotel bar, blew her a kiss and waggled his tongue at her in an “inappropriate motion”, Leeds Crown Court was told.

He later grabbed her forcefully by the shoulders and also patted her shoulder.

The man who attacked him was arrested, but a decision was then made to arrest Bond days later after West Yorkshire Police were contacted, who confirmed the 29-year-old is a convicted paedophile.

Bond, of Sycamore Court, Crofton, Wakefield, admitted two charges of assault by beating of the girl.

He also admitted two counts of breach of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) after it was found he was using software on his phone with a private browser, as well as deleting messages from WhatsApp.

The SHPO allows his phone to be monitored and strictly forbids him to delete his internet history.

But almost immediately after walking free from court he set about breaching the order.

Judge Penelope Belcher said he must have left the court previously with the judge’s comments “ringing in his ears” about what would happen if he breached his suspended sentence.

Mitigating, Rhianydd Clement said Bond had admitted his guilt for his latest offences at the first opportunity. She said he wishes to apologise to the court and to the girl.

She said: “This defendant has been frank. He accepts he has a sexual interest in children. He needs help and is accepting of that.”

Ms Clement urged Judge Belcher not to activate his suspended sentence, saying work could be done with him.

But Judge Belcher told Bond: “There is no excuse for this, it’s a deliberate breach.

“This all happened so soon after the imposition of a suspended sentence order, together with a sexual harm prevention order.”

She conceded that Bond was charged with assaults, rather than more-serious sexual assaults, but said it was set against a “background that is enormously concerning”, given his previous admission of an attraction to children.

She activated all 16 months of his suspended sentence, and gave him another eight months, to run consecutively, for the assaults and SHPO breaches, making a total of 24 months’ jail.
