A man is seriously injured and receiving treatment in hospital after a stabbing in Roundhay.

The family of a 37-year-old man took him to hospital after he went to their house in Gipton Wood Avenue on Friday with stab wounds.

They contacted the police at around 1.30pm and the victim told officers he had been assaulted by a black man who approached him in Easterly Road near the junction with Amberton Road in Roundhay.

His injuries were serious and he is continuing to receive treatment, but they are not considered to be life threatening.

A scene was put in place for forensic examination and enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Detectives are appealing for information after a man was stabbed in an incident in Leeds.

"At 1.33pm yesterday (26/2) police were contacted by the family of a 37-year-old man who were taking him to hospital after he attended their address in Gipton Wood Avenue with stab wounds.

"Officers spoke to the victim who reported being assaulted by a black male who approached him in Easterly Road, near the junction with Amberton Road.

"His injuries were considered serious but not life threatening and he is continuing to receive treatment.

"A scene was put in place to undergo forensic examination and enquiries are ongoing."
