Man kicked West Yorkshire Police police officer when he refused to give him a lift home

Kristian Brown was arrested on suspicion of burglary, a charge which was later dropped, but he was taken to West Yorkshire Police Headquarters at Havertop Lane in Normanton for questioning on November 2 last year.

When they eventually released him he claimed he had no way of getting home, it was cold outside and wanted an officer to drop him off, which was refused.

Leeds Crown Court was told that Brown became confrontational, had to be escorted from police station premises by three officers and his shoe came off in the process, so he lashed out, catching the officer on the shin.

The 41-year-old, who was being held on remand, appeared in court via video link where he admitted a charge of assault.

Brown had been stopped by police in Wakefield on June 30 in 2019 and was found to have a sheath for a large hunting knife found in his trousers. The knife was found nearby.

He was also arrested on July 19 last year after being caught interfering with vehicles on Denby Dale Road and St John's Road in Wakefield city centre.

James Littlehales, mitigating, said that Brown simply "lashed out" when he was removed from the police station.

He added: "It was a case of it being out of frustration more than anything else."

Judge Christopher Batty handed him an eight-month jail sentence, but suspended it for 18 months.

He warned him: "You have 18 months to stay out of trouble.

"If you don't, then you and I will have to get together again and I will give you those eight months."
