He is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (October 20).

The charges follow a collision on Pontefract Lane in the Cross Green area of Leeds during a car meet in July. At the time, police said two cars reportedly crashed into parked vehicles just before 11pm on July 19.

No serious injuries were reported.

Following the charges, officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit warned that legislative changes give police increased powers to crack down on illegal car meets and anti-social driving.

PC Paul McDermott, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “We will continue to act on information about car meets and any illegal use of our roads across West Yorkshire, and those found to be committing offences or using vehicles in an anti-social manner will be dealt with.

“Anyone engaging in such behaviour should be aware that there have been changes to legislation which means that we can now seize vehicles under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 without any warning.”
