Machete wielding thugs target Bradford Ladbrokes shop

Machete wielding thugs carried out an armed robbery at a West Yorkshire bookmakers before fleeing the scene, police said.

Detectives in Bradford are investigating following the robbery of the Ladbrokes shop on Otley Road.

The incident happened at around 7:30pm on Wednesday.

Two men entered the shop, both carrying machetes and demanded money.

They took money from the cashier and then fled the scene.

An 18-year-old man from Bradford was arrested close to the scene by nearby officers.

He remains in custody at this time.

Officers also located a machete, money and balaclava in a nearby garden.

The second suspect was described as a white man, wearing a light grey Adidas jacket with white stripes, hood up and wearing a balaclava.

Enquiries remain ongoing including examination of CCTV in the area.

Detective Inspector Matt Walker, of Bradford CID, said: “Our investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Thankfully no one was injured during this incident, but it was very distressing for staff in the shop.

“Anyone who saw two males in the area or have any further information, is urged to come forward and assist with our enquiries. We are in particular asking people to come forward if they saw a blue/green Suzuki which was believed to be in the area.”
