Lovesick drug dealer deported from UK twice before being found in Leeds

A lovesick immigrant who was caught in the UK after being deported twice has been jailed.

Albanian Emirjon Gjuta was already subject to a deportation order when he was arrested in Leeds on September 3.

He claimed he returned because of his girlfriend in England.

The court was told he first came to England hidden on the back of a lorry, and was jailed for four-and-a-half years in 2019 for conspiracy to produce cannabis and possessing identity documents with intent.

He was made subject to the deportation order and finally removed in 2020.

He was then arrested in March 2022, jailed for eight months and then deported again in March 2023.

He was then found in Leeds two months ago. He claimed he did not know that he was banned from returning.

The court heard that he was 31, but it was not confirmed after the judge said he had given various dates of birth.

Prosecutor Henry Fernandez told Leeds Crown Court conceded there was no evidence he was engaging in criminality, but said there was also little evidence to suggest he was planning to claim for asylum.

Mitigating, Nicholas Hammond said his motivation for returning on this occasion was that he had a relationship with a woman in the UK.

He said his “only real mitigation” wa shis guilty plea to entering the country in breach of a deportation order.

Judge Neil Clark told Gjuta, of no fixed address: “You have never had permission to enter or remain in the UK.

“You have repeatedly undermined the border control. “

He jailed him for 14 months and told him he would deported after serving his sentence.”
