Letters 'destroyed' as firework posted into postbox on Pudsey street

Firefighters have been called to a street in Leeds after a postbox was destroyed by a firework.

It happened on Alexandra Road, Pudsey, at about 7.45pm.

In a Facebook post, Pudsey Councillor Simon Seary shared a picture of firefighters at the scene.

He said: "Unfortunately someone has decided to post a firework into the post box on Alexandra Road, it appears that all the mail has been destroyed.

"Thank you to the local resident for informing the services."

West Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Anyone with information which may assist is asked to contact police in Leeds on 101 or by using the options on the West Yorkshire Police website.

The crime reference is 13200577291.

Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.
