'They got a shock': Plain-clothes police jump off bus to catch stone-throwing youths in Leeds

Plain clothes officers jumped out of the bus and detained the youths

Three young people have been slapped with anti-social behaviour contracts after being caught throwing stones at a bus in Leeds.

The youths bombarded one of First Bus’s vehicles on Monday (October 27), unaware that plain clothes police officers were onboard as part of an operation to tackle ASB.

Giving the youths “a shock”, the officers jumped out of the bus and detained them. Police also seized an “illegal bike” during the incident.

In a post on Facebook, the West Yorkshire Police - Leeds South page explained: “Monday night NPT Middleton & Belle Isle working in Partnership with LASBT and First Bus were carrying out targeted patrols tackling ASB.

“Bus routes have been affected over recent months due to the ASB targeting and damaging buses.

“The ASB youths could not resist the opportunity to throw stones and items at the bus as it passed but they got a shock as a team of plain clothes officers jumped off and detained them.

“1 illegal bike seized and rider reported for offences.

“3 persons are now being issued anti social behavioural contracts that exclude them from the retail park for 6 months.

“Failing to comply, a court injunction can be issued.”
