Leeds man killed in York city centre crash

A Leeds man was killed after being hit by a car in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after the incident in York city centre at 2.30am.

The car involved was a Skoda Octavia.

It happened at the junction of Station Road and Rougier Street.

The man, who was in his thirties and from Leeds, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed until about 10.30am while emergency services worked at the scene.

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Please dial 101, select option 2 and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team or the officer in the case TC Gemma Brett.
