Leeds man charged as police officer seriously injured after being hit by car in Harrogate

A man from Leeds has been charged with three offences after a police officer was hit by a car.

The officer was left with serious injuries after he was hit by a vehicle as it tried to flee officers in Bewerley Road, Harrogate, on Tuesday.

He suffered a fractured knee cap and had to undergo surgery. He remains in hospital.

Three people from Leeds were arrested in connection to the incident on Tuesday.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and use of a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

He is due to appear in Harrogate Magistrates today.

A 35-year-old man and 24-year-old woman who were also arrested have been released on conditional bail.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
