Jealous ex aimed gun at woman in her Leeds home and threatened to kill her family

Jealous thug pulled pistol from his waistband and even threatened to shoot pet dog

A grandmother was left fearing for her life after her ex partner came to her home late at night and aimed a gun at her.

Serge Makosso-Tunda threatened to not only shoot her, but her family inside, along with their pet dog.

Having forced his way into the property, he then began to pistol whip her across her head.

The ordeal only ended when a neighbour came to her aid.

Makosso-Tunda, who required a French interpreter, was deemed a danger to society by the judge at Leeds Crown Court and handed an eight-year extended prison sentence.

Prosecutor Lily Wildman said he and the victim had been in a relationship for eight years, but separated around three years ago.

On the night of June 27, he came to her home in Beeston where children were present.

Makosso-Tunda began to shout her from outside, and with it being late at night, the woman came down to speak with him.

She asked him to leave but he put his foot in the door to prevent her from closing it.

He then pulled out the gun from his waistband and pointed it at her, threatening to shoot her and others in the house, as well as the pet.

She then barged past him to raise the alarm with neighbours, and when she returned, he was still there and pointed the gun at her again.

He then assaulted her by pushing her into the wall and striking her over the head with the gun.

Ms Wildman said the terrified victim, who was fearing for her life, believed it to be a real gun and could hear it clicking.

By the time the police arrived, Makosso-Tunda had fled.

He was arrested the next day and admitted being present, but denied attacking the woman.

Makosso-Tunda, of Brompton Grove, Beeston, later admitted possessing an imitation firearm with an intent to cause fear of violence, making threats to kill, ABH and possession of cannabis.

He has 13 previous convictions for 19 offences, including assault of an emergency worker and possessing a knife in public.

Mitigating, Andrea Parnham said Makosso-Tunda accepted “full responsibility”.

She added: “He knows he made a grave mistake. He tells me he was still in the relationship at the time, he had not heard from her for a few days and she was not returning his calls.

“He thought she was seeing someone else and had drunk more than he usually did.

“He went to her house and accepts there was a much better way of handling that situation. He is very sorry for his actions.”

She said he had been in the UK since 2012 and had worked in various roles. He is a father of four but Ms Parnham conceded he had issues with alcohol.

Judge Simon Phillips KC gave Makosso-Tunda a four-year jail sentence, with a four-year extended licence period to mark his dangerousness, making an overall eight-year sentence.

He was also given a lifelong restraining order to keep him away from his ex partner.
