'Deeply loved': Family launches fundraiser after Leeds man killed on New Year’s Day

The family of a man who was killed in a suspected attack in Leeds on New Year’s Day has launched a fundraiser for his funeral.

Dwayne Patrick Tuohey, 55, died at the hospital on January 1 following an attack on Gargrave Court in the Burmantofts area.

Police were called to reports of ‘suspicious circumstances’ at the tower block on the morning of January 1, where they found Mr Touhey lying injured on the floor.

He was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries a short time later.

West Yorkshire Police subsequently arrested 51-year-old Scott Silkstone, of no fixed abode, who has since been charged with murder.

A woman and a man were arrested on suspicion of assisting the offender, but have since been released without charge.

Paying tribute to Mr Tuohey, a GoFundMe website has been set up to raise money for his funeral.

A tribute led by sister-in-law Tina Tuohey reads: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic loss of Jack's eldest son, Michael's brother and my brother-in-law, Dwayne Patrick Tuohey, who was sadly taken from us on New Year’s Day.

“Dwayne was deeply loved, and his loss has left our family and friends devastated. We want to give him the dignified and loving farewell he deserves, so his family and friends can come together to say goodbye.

“We never imagined having to ask for help during such a painful time, but any donation - no matter how small - would mean the world to us and will go directly toward funeral and memorial expenses.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support, and for keeping Dwayne and our family in your thoughts.”
