Skoda driver who killed elderly pedestrian on Leeds road to stand trial this autumn
A motorist has admitted killing an 81-year-old pedestrian, but denies he was driving dangerously.
Alan Hickman appeared at Leeds Crown Court this week where he admitted killing pensioner Winifred Hogg through careless driving, but denied a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
The collision occurred in Alwoodley in February last year.
During the brief hearing, the Crown said Hickman’s admission was not acceptable so he will be tried on the dangerous-driving charge.

The 62-year-old will face trial on October 21. It was estimated that it would take around one or two days.
Hickman, of Scotchman Lane, Morley, was granted bail. However, and interim driving ban was imposed with immediate effect.
Police received a report of a collision involving Hickman’s blue Skoda Rapid and a pedestrian on Harrogate Road between the junctions of Belvedere Road and Belvedere Avenue in Alwoodley at 12.29pm, February 24, 2025.
Emergency services attended and found an 81-year-old Mrs Hogg with serious injuries.
She was taken to hospital where she was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
