Burglar's £10,000 spree of crime

A court heard Christopher Aubrey also stole charity boxes containing £1,200 during one of the burglaries.

Leeds Crown Court heard Aubrey and another man carried out an “audacious” raid 
at Opticare opticians, Batley, 
on the morning of May 26 this year.

Hannah Lynch, prosecuting, said Aubrey and the other man could be seen on CCTV discussing what to steal before forcing a back door.

They then took around £1,000 worth of Ray-Ban and Oakley sunglasses.

The two men then forced their way into a neighbouring business, Dewsbury Travel and Tours, before stealing electrical equipment.

The pair then drove to Zaika Halal Meat and forced their way into the premises before stealing charity boxes containing £1,200 and a safe containing £5,000.

Items from the burglary spree were found at his flat when he was arrested on June 28.

Property from other burglaries at hair salons in Dewsbury were also recovered from the address.

Aubrey, 37, of Elland Road, Batley, pleaded guilty to three offences of burglary and three of handling stolen goods.

He has a long criminal 
record, mainly for offences of burglary.

Jailing him, judge Guy Kearl, QC, said: “The offences have a very nasty taste to them in the sense that you stole charity boxes.”
