Jail for booze and crisps burglar restrained by Wakefield homeowner during garden-bar break-in
He made threats to “get” the resident after being held down
A burglar who was tackled by a homeowner after he stole alcohol and crisps has been jailed.
Danny Rudd, who has a long list of previous convictions, was taken down by the man who saw him on his property in Castleford.
He had broken into the bar in the man’s garden, Leeds Crown Court heard.
The victim had been watching TV in the early hours of May 11 when he received an alert on his phone that CCTV had picked up movement in his back garden.

He went to look and saw 39-year-old Rudd dressed in dark clothing and a face covering.
The man went outside and struck Rudd causing him to fall to the ground and drop a bottle of whisky he had taken from the bar.
When he tried to get up, the man put him down for a second time.
While being restrained he told the man: “My brother and friends will come for you.”
The court heard that Rudd, of Siskin Close, Fryston, had stolen two bottles of alcohol and four packets of crisps.
Rudd admitted aggravated burglary. Mitigating, Keith Whitehouse said Rudd accepted full responsibility but said he had been “encouraged” by others.
He said: “It’s not an excuse for his conduct, but reading between the lines there must have been some coercion or encouragement.
“It must have been a traumatic event for the complainants.”
Judge Howard Crowson said there was little prospect of rehabilitation, given that Rudd had 17 previous convictions for 39 offences and had been handed lengthy jail terms for GBH and drug dealing.
He jailed him for three years.
