North Leeds residents took to social media late on Saturday night and early on Sunday morning to question what was going on nearby as a number of people living in and around the Alwoodley and Moortown areas said they had seen a police helicopter.

One person responded and said they had seen that Queenshill Avenue in Moortown had been closed off with 'lots' of armed police.

The armed police presence caused a stir among local residents, with a number of them posting on Facebook saying they had got out of bed to check their doors were locked.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police has since confirmed that this was in response to a hoax call reporting a firearm, but that they cannot provide any more details.
