25 arrests in Leeds city centre made over support of Palestine Action during demonstration in Dortmund Square
Police arrested 25 people in Leeds this afternoon as a pro-Palestine demonstration took place.
The demonstration was held at Dortmund Square, just by The Headrow, this afternoon (Tuesday) as part of a set of nationwide protests organised by Defend Our Juries calling for the ban on Palestine Action to be lifted.

Those in attendance held placards with messages such as ‘I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action’ and demonstrators were seen being carried away.

West Yorkshire Police have now confirmed that 25 people were arrested on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation.
A spokesperson said: “We would like to thank residents, shoppers, and businesses in Leeds city centre for their cooperation during a protest today in Dortmund Square.
“West Yorkshire Police works hard to balance the right to peaceful and lawful protest with the rights of the public to go about their daily lives.
“25 people have been arrested on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation, an offence under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
“Our officers have worked closely with partners to minimise disruption and there remains a policing presence in the Dortmund Square area at this time.
“The public are thanked for their support and patience.”
