The service for the 14-year-old Allerton High School pupil takes place tomorrow, six weeks to the day since the atrocity which claimed the lives of 22 victims at the end of an Ariana Grande concert.

In a touching display of support today, a shop owner near the Leczkowski family home in Adel staged a fundraising event that attracted a swell of local support.

Praff Patel, who runs Costcutter on Raynel Approach in Ireland Wood, organised an afternoon of food and fun to help raise donations for a collection in aid of Sorrell’s family.

There was a bouncy castle for children and cakes, curry and other bites laid on for supporters.

It came a fortnight after the original collection box was stolen from the shop.

Mr Patel said: “We’ve had overwhelming support from people from round here after the box got stolen. It upset a lot of people so we thought why not go for something like this in a big way and help the family out?

“On the last count we had a little over £700 and hopefully we can make a bit more. Hopefully it will give the family a bit of a boost and shows her family that the community is rallying round them.”
