After local consultations, the German company has put forward plans for a 1,100 sq m shop on brownfield land off Harrogate Road in Chapel Allerton.

According to documents submitted to Leeds City Council, the plan aims “to create a modern, well positioned and exciting addition to the local area”.

A design statement said: “The overall design proposal has also been influenced by the direct dialogue and comments received from the local community and councillors during pre application meetings and consultation.”

Aldi has more than 500 stores in the UK.

The Chapel Allerton site , behind the Yorkshire Bank building, has been disused for several years.

If approved, the new store would have 77 parking spaces and a pedestrian crossing.
