‘A star student’ Bella finds her forever home - with a little help from celeb friend Pete Wicks

But when unexpected health concerns paused her rehoming journey, it was the kindness was the team alongside a helping hand from television star Pete Wicks, that ensured she got the second chance she needed.

When Bella arrived in the care of the charity in April last year, the toy-loving, friendly pooch looked like she would be in a forever home in a heartbeat.

But when the Dogs Trust team noticed her drinking lots of water and going to the toilet more regularly than other dogs, her rehoming journey went on pause, as the charity worked to ensure she was healthy enough to be rehomed.

With the vets raising concerns about diabetes, the charity set about conducting tests and introducing medical care that would ensure this pooch was healthy enough for rehoming, with Bella's friend Pete Wicks even helping to collect her urine samples himself.

When all the tests came back all clear, much to Pete Wicks and team at Dogs Trust Leeds' relief, this pooch- who is just more thirsty than other dogs -was put up for rehoming, where, to nobody's surprise, she swiftly found her forever home with Kim and Phil from York.

Bella's adopter, Kim, said, "Six months after first meeting Bella, she is a much-loved member of our family. She is friendly, energetic, fun, clever and quite naughty

"She loves toys and still opens cupboards to get to them. She likes to spend the evening cuddled up to us on the sofa. We are so happy that she chose us as her forever home.”

Kelly Walker, manager at Dogs Trust Leeds, said, "We're so pleased to see this 'A Star Student' find her forever home. Bella's rehoming story is a great example of the bespoke care every dog receives while they are waiting to find their forever home.

"We are always ready to make sure a dog is as healthy as possible before putting them up for adoption. Thanks to the wonderful work of our team at Dogs Trust Leeds, and of course, Pete Wicks, Bella's rehoming shows that we will do everything we can to give each dog the very best chance of finding a home to call their own.

"Both the team at Dogs Trust Leeds and I are delighted to be featured in the latest series of Pete Wicks: For Dogs' Sake. We're so glad that we could shine a light on some of the fantastic pooches in our care, looking for their forever homes."
