Leeds property news: Persimmon helps fund St Gemma's hospice

A Leeds hospice has received a welcome fundraising boost from a leading housebuilder.

Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire crowned St Gemma’s Hospice as its ‘Community Champion’ and awarded the organisation £1,000 to help maintain its day to day running costs.

The hospice provides emotional and medical care to over 3,000 local people each year who are suffering from cancer and other life limiting illnesses as well as supporting patients’ families and carers through its Young Peoples’ Service and Bereavement Support Teams. Relying mainly upon public funding donations, is vital to maintaining the hospice’s services, which cost £25,000 every day.

Jenny Dixon, Senior Corporate Fundraiser at St Gemma’s Hospice, said: “We are over the moon to receive Persimmon’s donation. The money will help us to continue our work. We couldn’t do this without the support of the local community and donations.”

“We would like to send huge thanks to everyone at Persimmon Homes for choosing us as their Community Champion.”

Persimmon Homes Community Champions is a national program which aims to provide financial support to deserving organisations across the region by allowing charities and community groups to apply for funding up to £1,000 on top of money already raised individually by the groups.

Simon Whalley, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “St Gemma’s Hospice provides an outstanding service and we are honoured to support such a worthwhile cause.”
