If you're looking for an excuse to head into Leeds city centre for a meal, there's now a tempting deal on the table at one of the city's best-known Thai restaurants.

The deal normally costs £86, meaning shoppers can save up to 55%

And for those who want to make more of an occasion of it, there's also the option to upgrade to a three-course Thai banquet featuring a selection of sharing dishes.

The restaurant is offering the deal for groups of two, three or four, with multiple vouchers able to be purchased for larger gatherings of up to eight people.

For the two-course option, diners can choose a starter and main each.

Starters include vegetable spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce, tom yum hot and sour soup and Chaophraya-style chicken satay with peanut sauce and sweet Thai relish.

Mains include a chicken Thai green curry served with jasmine rice, beef in black pepper sauce with jasmine rice, or Pad Thai with chicken, tofu or vegan chicken.

Each diner also gets a choice of drink, including a Raspberry Crush cocktail, glass of Prosecco, pint of Singha beer or draught soft drink.

The banquet upgrade is a particularly tempting option for anyone who wants to try a little bit of everything.

It includes sharing starters such as Thai chicken tacos, chicken satay, chicken spring rolls, tempura king prawns and spicy crispy duck salad.

That's followed by sharing mains including tamarind roast duck, beef Panang and sweet and sour crispy chicken with dragon fruit, alongside jasmine rice.

Dessert is then covered with a choice of coconut crème brûlée or banana fritters.

The restaurant was founded by Kim Kaewkraikhot and her partner, who opened the first Chaophraya in Leeds in 2004.

Kim's journey into the restaurant business began much earlier, however. She grew up in rural Thailand and developed her love of cooking alongside her mum.

At just 15, she moved to Bangkok, where she eventually set up her own Pad Thai street-food cart in 1993. The recipe she developed there remains a staple at Chaophraya today.

Kim later moved to the UK and, in 2004, she opened their first Chaophraya in Leeds – the beginning of what would become a much larger Thai restaurant group.

Today, the Leeds restaurant sits just a few minutes' walk from Leeds railway station and offers a mix of classic and modern Thai dishes, with vegan and gluten-free options available.

It has also picked up recognition in its home city, winning Best World Restaurant at the Yorkshire Evening Post Oliver Awards in 2023.

The current Wowcher offer is available seven days a week, from noon until 10pm, and can be redeemed until March 31, 2027.

There is a £5 per person supplement for Friday and Saturday bookings, while advance booking is recommended.

The deal

The Chaophraya deal is available from £39 for two people, compared with the stated usual price of £86.

Diners can choose the two-course meal with a drink, or upgrade to the three-course sharing banquet.

The deal is also available at Chaophraya's restaurants in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Newcastle, as well as Leeds.
