Leeds restaurant launches 'Thali of Fortune' to celebrate birthday - with range of big prizes
The grand prize offers £100 a month to spend at the restaurant next year
A Leeds restaurant is marking its 34th anniversary with an exciting giveaway.
To celebrate the milestone, every guest who visits Prashad for the rest of the year will receive a ‘Thali of Fortune’ scratch card with their bill - and each card guarantees a prize.
The initiative promises a range of rewards, ranging from complimentary drinks and desserts to a meal on the house, with the grand prize offering £100 a month to spend at Prashad throughout 2027 - a total value of £1,200.
The odds for the top rewards are one in 2,000 for the grand prize, and one in 40 for a free meal. Other guests might pick up a 25% discount or treats on their next visit.
Inspired by Prashad’s signature Maharani Thali, the scratch cards pay homage to the restaurant’s roots in Gujarati cuisine. Bobby Patel, who runs Prashad alongside Head Chef and wife Minal, explained the idea behind the giveaway.
He said: “The best mouthful is when you tear off some roti, scoop up some shrikhand (a sweet, hung yoghurt) and then any of the curries… Trust me, it’s sublime. And fortune flavours the brave, after all.”
Prashad’s journey began as a vegetarian deli opened by Kaushy and Mohan Patel in the early 1990s, at a time when plant-based food was a rarity.
Since Bobby and Minal took the reins in 2004, the restaurant has moved to Drighlington, earned distinction with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and picked up two AA Rosettes for its Gujarati specialities.
This year’s anniversary celebrations follow Prashad’s recent success at the Indian Restaurant Summit and Honours 2026, where it was honoured with the Culinary Excellence Award.
Minal Patel reflected on the occasion, saying: “Winning the Culinary Excellence Award was a proud moment for the whole team, but the real credit belongs to our guests. Their support over 34 years is why we get to cook the food we love.
“The Thali of Fortune is our way of sharing the celebration with them. We can’t wait to see who gets lucky.”
The Thali of Fortune promotion is open to all diners visiting Prashad from now until the end of December 2026.
