"Good news for the city": Bars praise dedicated Bank Holiday customers despite harsh weather

Both Horsforth Brewery and Hyde Park Book Club told the Yorkshire Evening Post they had been full across the weekend.

The bars reported little to no cancellations despite the inclement weather on Sunday and Monday with a thriving trade during the three days.

Horsforth Brewery shared their delight at being able to host customers again post-lockdown.

However, their gazebo was damaged on Monday due to the severe winds and rain - leaving staff assessing options going forward.

Horsforth Brewery said: "It went really well.

"We had one late cancellation that was quickly filled by a walk-in, no no-shows and were full all weekend

"A gazebo with two walls worked really well and was nicely sheltered.

"But I underestimated the wind power."

Hyde Park Book Club also said the weather was "better than expected" and were full for the majority of the weekend.

They said it was "good news for the city" and it was clear that Leeds residents "want to be out".

Hyde Park Book Club said: "Really good, similar to Horsforth Brewery.

"We were full, I can’t remember any cancellations but we keep space for walk ins and they kept coming.

"The weather was actually better this last week than we expected.

"It is good news for the city and our friends across the industry.

"It feels like people want to be out.

Staff at Tavassoli's Cafe + Grill captured a hilarious image of two men during a downpour of rain on Sunday, May 2.In the photograph, two lads defy the weather, huddling under blankets and umbrellas as they continued tucking into their beer and gyros.

Sharing a video of the scene on Facebook, the cafe said: "Don't tell me you love Gyros unless you're as dedicated as these two legends."

"Not even Zeus's lightning would work on them."

Hospitality venues like restaurants and pubs were allowed to reopen on April 12 but only outdoors, meaning there is no protection from the elements.
