Dogs Trust in Leeds has several dogs and puppies and these are the ones currently up for adoption this January (all photos from Dogs Trust Leeds):
7. Foxy
Foxy is a sweet little guy with a personality all of his own. He will need patient owners who have the time Foxy needs to settle into his new home. Potential adopters will need to talk to our vet and behaviour team before meeting him. He is currently living in a foster home. Foxy is looking for an adult only home as the only pet. His owners will need to be around all the time to provide a good settling in period. Given time he should be ok on his own for short periods. Foxy needs a hands-off approach but he does enjoy a fuss but it has to be when he is ready. A tennis ball is his favourite toy and he will play all day if you let him. At 11 years young Foxy does have arthritis which he is on medication for, he is on a weight managed diet to help him lose weight. Foxy will need a home with a private, enclosed garden. Adopters will need to live within one hour of the Leeds Centre.
Jake is a very handsome six year old Lurcher. He is one of life's worriers though. He can be shy when he first meets you, but he's easily won over if you've got a few treats in your pocket! Once he knows you he is the softest lad you could meet. He just loves cuddling up with you and is so affectionate. He likes his walks and he also loves lounging on a sofa, a good walk somewhere quiet will keep him happy. He's manageable around other dogs but he doesn't like them in his personal space however he is happy to wear a muzzle out and about. Jake doesn't like being left on his own so he'll need his owners around all the time initially. He'll need to be the only pet in an adult only home where there will be no visiting children at all. He'll also need a good sized secure garden. Most importantly though, he needs owners who will share their sofa with him and who enjoy LOTS of cuddles! Jake will need multiple visits to get to know him before he is ready to fly the nest so his new owners must live around a 30 minute
Jessie is a scrumptious medium-sized, fawn and white staffie. Don't be fooled by her eight years, because this girl still thinks she is two years old and has an infectious love for life! Jessie loves playing with her toys and taking a dip in the paddling pool on hot days, she is food motivated (which is great for training!) and she is really friendly with her handlers. Jessie is manageable around other other dogs, but you can see in her body language that she would rather avoid them so she would need to be the only dog in the house. She is looking for an adult only home. Jessie can be very strong on the lead and would need active (and strong!) owners to keep up with her. She will need an enclosed garden for her to burn off some of that energy and soak up the sun on warm days. Jessie has found being in kennels difficult and unfortunately she has been rehomed and returned a couple of times. When she goes home it'll take a couple of weeks for her to unwind which her new owners must understand, so she is looking
Lyle is a lovely lad who has a lot of potential in the right hands. He's three years old and although he's old enough to know better, he does still lack self-control! He's absolutely full of beans and always on the go so will need a lot of patience from his owners as he learns the ropes of home life. He'll need very dedicated people who have a good understanding of dog training and who are passionate about gradually bringing out Lyle's potential. He is extremely strong on lead so you must be able to confidently handle him out and about. He is a very intelligent dog and very willing to learn. His love of food really helps when doing training tasks with him. If you are looking for a smart boy who enjoys lots of interaction and will be a bit of an ongoing project, then Lyle is your boy!
Stanley is an intelligent, interactive, and frankly stunningly beautiful chap. He is a big lad with a solid build, and he can be strong on lead at times - especially if there is a critter or two to chase! Stanley has been with us for some time and he has previously been rehomed and returned to us due to his behaviour. Because of this, he is looking for an owner with dog experience, time on their hands, an interest in training and behaviour, and who has a Stanley-sized-space on their sofa! He is worried by new faces so introductions need to be gradual. His new owners would need to commit to doing multiple meets to get to know Stanley before he could go home.
Tasha is a big fluffy bundle of love! She loves being around people and is immediately friendly with everyone she meets. She'll always hang around until you give a little bum scratch! Unfortunately, she isn't so keen on other dogs so will need to be walked in quieter areas where they won't come up close to her. Her muzzle training is coming along well though and she walks beautifully on lead. She may be nine years old but she's still a very playful girl and loves her toys. Unlike many Akita's she really likes you to play with her and give her as much fuss as possible. So if you're looking for a guaranteed snuggle buddy then Tasha is your girl! Tasha will need a little patience as she settles in to her new home. She can't be left initially but in time, and if done very gradually, she should be okay to be built up to being left for short periods. She'll need to be the only pet in and adult only home where there won't be any young children visiting. She will need a secure garden to play off-lead and access to qu
