Dogs Trust in Leeds has several dogs and puppies and these are the ones that currently need re-homing this February (all photos from Dogs Trust Leeds):
7. Lyle
Lyle is a lovely lad who has a lot of potential in the right hands. He's three years old and although he's old enough to know better, he does still lack self-control! He's absolutely full of beans and always on the go so will need a lot of patience from his owners as he learns the ropes of home life. He'll need very dedicated people who have a good understanding of dog training and who are passionate about gradually bringing out Lyle's potential. He is extremely strong on lead so you must be able to confidently handle him out and about. He is a very intelligent dog and very willing to learn. His love of food really helps when doing training tasks with him. If you are looking for a smart boy who enjoys lots of interaction and will be a bit of an ongoing project, then Lyle is your boy!
Spud is a great little lad who needs very understanding and patient owners who will give him the chance to prove himself. He is six years old and once he has firmed a bond with you he'll show you his bubbly and affectionate personality. Sadly Spud lacks in confidence and can get very stressed in unfamiliar situations. Due to his worries he cannot live with children and would prefer to be the only pet. Spud will need to be exercised in quiet areas without many other dogs present and away from busy roads. He'll need a secure garden so he has somewhere to play off lead. There must be no visitors during his settling in period and very few thereafter. Spud really struggles being left alone and forms a very strong attachment to one person. He will need somebody around all of the time for the long term.
Stanley is an intelligent, interactive, and frankly stunningly beautiful chap. He is a big lad with a solid build, and he can be strong on lead at times - especially if there is a critter or two to chase! Stanley has been with us for some time and he has previously been rehomed and returned due to his behaviour. Because of this, he is looking for an owner with dog experience, time on their hands, an interest in training and behaviour, and who has a Stanley-sized-space on their sofa! He is worried by new faces so introductions need to be gradual. His new owners would need to commit to doing multiple meets to get to know Stanley before he could go home.
Stuart is big strong lad who is looking for a very special home. He's only one and unfortunately hasn't had much training in his life. His training MUST be continued in his home. His owners will need plenty of previous experience of large breed dogs and be prepared to put in a lot of effort at the start with things like lead training, confidence building and gradual dog socialisation as he does tend to bark when he sees them. He is full of potential so your hard work will be rewarded with a fun, playful and loyal companion. He loves his food so he really is a trainers dream! He is housetrained but he will only toilet on grass, so his home MUST have a fully secure garden with high fence and lawn. Due to his size and training needs he must live in an adult only environment as the only dog with no visitors during his settling in period, and very few after then as he is nervous around new people. He cannot be left at all at the moment so will need someone around all the time for as long as it takes for him to fee
Tasha is a big fluffy bundle of love! She loves being around people and is immediately friendly with everyone she meets. She'll always hang around until you give a little bum scratch! Unfortunately, she isn't so keen on other dogs so will need to be walked in quieter areas where they won't come up close to her. Her muzzle training is coming along well though and she walks beautifully on lead. She may be nine years old but she's still a very playful girl and loves her toys. Unlike many Akita's she really likes you to play with her and give her as much fuss as possible. So if you're looking for a guaranteed snuggle buddy then Tasha is your girl! Tasha will need a little patience as she settles in to her new home. She can't be left initially but in time, and if done very gradually, she should be okay to be built up to being left for short periods. She'll need to be the only pet in and adult only home where there won't be any young children visiting.
Theo is a tiny chap with a huge personality! He has previously been rehomed and then returned because of his behaviour, so he is looking for patient owners who are prepared to do some training and help Theo learn that unfamiliar people and dogs are not so scary. A huge bonus is that Theo loves to learn new things, he loves food, and he absolutely loves playing with his toys. Theo is fearful of unknown people and he barks at both people and dogs when on walks, so in order for his training to be successful, his new owners must have access to quieter walks where we can start to teach him something new. He does travel short distances, so he could travel to quieter walks if needed. Theo has a history of being worried by visitors, especially children, so he must live in a quiet, adult only household with few comings and goings (and certainly no small visitors).
