Dogs Trust in Leeds has several dogs and puppies and these are the ones that currently need rehoming (all photos from Dogs Trust Leeds):
. Biggie
Biggie is seven years old and has been through a rough time. He was found in a very bad state, underweight and suffering with a painful skin condition. He's bounced back brilliantly but following his skin problems he doesn't like to much handling, especially around his ears and neck. So instead of snuggling on your knee he will show his love for you in other ways like playtime. He likes chasing a ball and really enjoys his walks. He loves his food too. He's friendly with everyone he meets, as long as they give him space to feel comfortable. He is fine around other dogs out and about but really isn't interested in them at all. This means he doesn't want to share his home with any other pets but can have walking buddies eventually. Biggie will need patient owners who will let him slowly settle into his new life and understand his feelings about not being handled too much. Young children will not be suitable but over 16s will be fine.
. Bruno
Bruno is an American bulldog who is friendly with everyone he meets. He's very active and he's looking for a family who can keep up with him and his antics. Although big in stature, Bruno is a sensitive chap and there are several things in life that worry him. Sudden noises and being left on his own are two such things, so he is looking for a home in a quiet environment with a family who will let him settle in his own time, and gradually build his confidence about being left on his own. He is also worried about car travel, but this has been improving with training. The thing that worries Bruno the most is other dogs. Bruno needs to wear a muzzle when he is out and about on walks, and he needs a home with no neighbouring dogs on either side so that he can chill out and relax in his own garden. Bruno could live with people aged 16 years and older and should be fine with visitors.
. Coco
Coco (18 months) is a fun and active girl looking for owners who can match her energy levels. She would benefit from some training classes to stimulate her brain as well as her paws and to help her to focus. Coco has a very high prey drive and will chase other animals so must be kept on lead out and about. She will need a fully enclosed garden with high fencing so she has an off lead area to run around in. Coco is not used to being on her own and will need owners around all the time initially. She is friendly with dogs out and about but will need to be the only pet in the home. Children 15 and over should be fine. Coco is a typical terrier and has many terrier traits such as critter hunting and chasing small furries. She seems to prefer females to males so her new owners must be prepared to visit her a few times if there are males in the home to ensure she is fully comfortable before going home.
. Copper
Five-year-old Copper was found with a large open wound on his back end which was obviously very painful. He is now on the mend and on the look out for a new home. Copper is a shy dog initially and would need a quiet adult only home where he can get to know his new owners and they can get to know him. He will need an enclosed garden to play in and to house train him if needed. Copper is very foodie and so should train up easily. He can be worried around other dogs and will choose to avoid them if he can so will need to be the only pet in the home. Being a lurcher, Copper does have a prey drive and may chase small furies but this is typical of the breed. Once he has settled into his new home Copper should come out of his shell and start to flourish.
. Digger
Digger is a very bubbly nine-year-old Terrier Cross. He is a really affectionate lad once he knows you. He needs to meet you many times and slowly build that bond, but once it's there he'll snuggle and play with you all day long! Sadly Digger has had little experience of home life and this has left him with a few anxieties. He's very sensitive to noise, so his home MUST be a quiet adult only household in a peaceful area away from busy roads and outdoor noise. He cannot share his home with any other pets but he is sociable around the right dog and will walk nicely together if introduced correctly. He'll need a lot of patience and understanding from his humans but if you are looking for a project that will eventually yield a fun and very smart dog then Digger could be your boy! Digger's new family will need to have a passion for dog training and be willing to work with our training and behaviour team throughout his transition to a new home. He'll need a fully secure garden with a four-foot fence.
. Edie
Edie is such a sweet girl who is great once she has a relationship with you, however she is very worried by unfamiliar people and takes time to build trust. Once there is a bond she is very interactive and affectionate. Unfortunately, she does not like being around other dogs so cannot share her home with any pets and must be walked in quiet areas where she won't have any coming up to her. She loves to play with toys and is good with training. Due to her nervous character, she needs a calm and peaceful home with adults only and at least one female, who will be around all the time initially. There must be few visitors to Edie's home generally (no visiting children at all) and none during her settling in period. She can't live next door to another dog and the area needs to be generally low dog populated. She'll need easy access to quiet walking routes as she isn't keen on travelling too far.
. Eddie
Eddie is a sweet lad who has just retired from his racing career. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys and is great to go out on a nice walk with. Since he has a high prey drive he wears a muzzle out and about but he's not bothered by it at all. Eddie is manageable around other dogs but prefers to be walked in quieter areas where they won't be in his face. This also means he can't share his home with any other pets. He is house trained and likes to be up on the sofa for a snooze so relaxed house rules are a must. Eddie will need a secure garden so he has somewhere to explore and enjoy occasional zoomies off lead. He will need an adult only home as he can be uncomfortable around children. Eddie is used to having owners around all the time but once set in his new routine he should be fine to be left for a few hours so may suit a part time worker.
. Dottie
Dottie is a gorgeous, vibrant boxer that is coming up to six years old. Dottie is dog social, but she is very worried about unfamiliar people and she needs to follow an introduction plan in order to get to know the new people in her life. Dottie has been rehomed and returned due to her behaviour around people she doesn't know, so because of this, we're looking for experienced dog owners who are looking for a bit of a project! Dottie has been working really hard with the training team and now she is ready to meet her new family and step out into the world. Dottie loves meeting dogs out and about, but she will need to be the only dog in the home. Dottie has got several health problems which she is on medication for, including hypothyroidism. New owners must be aware of ongoing vet bills and the Dog's Trust centre vet will discuss her health issues with you. Dottie loves to play and absolutely adores cuddles and affection from her favourite people. She is looking for an adult only home.
