The York Road-based dog rehoming centre continues to receive record numbers of requests from members of the public needing to relinquish their beloved pets due to the cost-of-living crisis, as well as working closely with local dog wardens to help rehome stray and abandoned dogs in the area.
Here we get to go behind the scenes, meet some of the wonderful pooches who are looking for their forever homes and celebrate the many successful adoptions throughout February.

. Sweet OAP Pippa celebrated Valentines Day in her foster home
We were sent this lovely photo of Pippa, who is living off-site in a foster home. She’s a lovely 10-year-old Crossbreed who is looking for her forever home. Her foster carer decided to treat her to a lovely new bandana for Valentine’s Day and we think she looks super cute! She’d love to find a calm and peaceful retirement home to relax in and shower you in love! So if you are looking for a sweet natured and relaxed companion, Pippa might be a perfect match for you. . Jake the Lurcher loves to snuggle in his kennel
Another longer-term-lodger is Jake. He’s an eight-year-old Lurcher who has been waiting to find his forever home for over 3 years due to him needing quite a specific home. His anxieties mean he needs a calm and peaceful environment with somebody around all the time for as long as it takes for him to fully settle in. He is also very worried by people he doesn’t know so his new family will need to put in a lot of time and effort to get to know him slowly. We joined him for some chill time in his kennel and it’s clear to see that once he has a relationship with you he is an absolute snuggle monster! Photo: Dogs Trust

. After almost a whole year of waiting Louise has been adopted
One of the rehoming centre’s long-term-lodgers, Louise, has finally got her chance at a forever home and has left to start a new life. She was found as a stray back in January 2022 when she was barely six months old. She had a lot of training needs due to her unsettled start but the team worked tirelessly to build her confidence and find the right home for her. Eventually the perfect match was made and her new owner Carl spent over 9 weeks visiting her to build a solid relationship. Last week Louise left the centre with Carl and from what we hear she’s settling in perfectly. Good luck Louise! Photo: Dogs Trust

. Max is one of the 55 lucky dogs who were adopted throughout February
The team at Dogs Trust Leeds have been very busy this month. So far in February they have seen 55 dogs leave the centre to start their new lives in their forever homes. It’s been a complete mix of dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages, the youngest being only 12-weeks old, and the oldest 16-years-old! Photo: Dogs Trust

7. Pablo the American Bulldog is hoping to find hs forever home soon
Pablo was recently handed over to the rehoming centre due to his owners no longer being able to look after him. He’s a nine-month-old American Bulldog who can be a little shy initially but his handlers have found that by letting him come round in his own time, he soon shows his fun, playful and loving character. He'd love to find a new home with adults and older teenagers who have a calm and predictable household. Once settled in he’ll become a loyal and very loving member of the family. Photo: Dogs Trust

8. Missi is a gorgeous Lurcher who is looking for her forever home
Missi, a five-year-old Lurcher, was sadly handed over to the rehoming centre for the second time due to her owner’s health problems. She was happily adopted a few years ago but unfortunately needs to find herself a new home again. She’s a shy lass when you first meet her, but once she knows you she is full of snuggles and playful character. Let’s hope she finds her forever home again soon. Photo: Dogs Trust

9. Bonne was spotted enjoying a woodland walk with Volunteer Canine Assistant Lucy
We joined one of the rehoming centre’s amazing Volunteer Canine Assistants for a woodland walk with Bonnie, a four-year-old Crossbreed. Lucy Jarvis has been volunteering at the centre for a couple of years now and after a morning of kennel cleaning she loves to take a few dogs out for long walks. She told us that Bonnie is one of her favourites because she is such a sweet girl and very affectionate. She dreams of walking and loves snuggling with her favourite people. She’s looking for her forever home too! Photo: Dogs Trust

10. Buster the Patterdale Terrier is having a great time in his foster home
We went to visit Buster in his foster home and what a little character he is! He’s a nine-year-old Patterdale Terrier and he found life in kennels a little stressful, so Christine, one of the centre’s incredible foster carers, offered her home temporarily for him. She told us that he’s literally full of beans and likes a lot of attention! He’s super smart and likes to be kept busy with food games or training, and when he’s out walking, he is just perfect. He’ll need very active adopters who understand and love all the energy and character the Patterdale breed brings. Photo: Dogs Trust

11. Staff from Leeds Building Society joined the team for a day of corporate volunteering
The rehoming centre was visited by a team of employees from Leeds Building Society, who spent a day volunteering. They helped the team to start work on their new ‘real life room’, which will eventually be a space where potential adopters can spend quality time and get to know their new pet before they go home. The staff were very grateful for their help and if anybody is interested in volunteering as a corporate group through their workplace you can find out more by emailing [email protected] Photo: Dogs Trust
