The York Road-based dog rehoming centre continues to receive record numbers of requests from members of the public needing to relinquish their beloved pets due to the cost-of-living crisis, as well as working closely with local dog wardens to help rehome an increasing number of stray and abandoned dogs in the area.
Here we get to go behind the scenes, meet some of the wonderful pooches who are looking for their forever homes and celebrate the many successful recent adoptions.
7. Toffee enjoyed his walkies in the snow
The flurry of snow the other week didn’t stop the team in Leeds cracking on and making sure the rescue dogs all had their exercise, and a chance to play in the white stuff too!
Here’s 7yr old Hound Crossbreed Toffee enjoying a lovely afternoon walk. He’d love to find his forever home with an active family who will enjoy lots of fun walkies and loads of playtime! Photo: Dogs Trust
8. Cheeka knows her age is just a number
Another longer-term-lodger is Cheeka. She’s a 9yr old Staffy who has been waiting to find her forever home for over 18 months! We think that people may be put off by her age, but having spent time on a lovely woodland walk with her, she clearly hasn’t noticed that she’s 9! She’s full of energy and loves lots of attention from her human friends. We can see that in the right home she has so much to give, so if you are a true Staffy lover go and check her out! 9. Teddy loves to relax on his foster carer's sofa
Another sweet lad who’s currently staying off-site in a foster home is Teddy. He’s a 4yr old Pug Crossbreed who has clearly made himself right at home with his foster carer! He’s hoping to find his forever home soon. The team are currently looking for new foster carers so if you might be able to offer a dog a temporary home until they find their forever home you can find out more by emailing [email protected] Photo: Dogs Trust
10. Bailey loves to play
We caught Bailey enjoying himself at a play session! He’s a 5yr old Crossbreed who just loves life! He is super smart and loves his training, will play all day and loves a good bum scratch too! He’ll need confident adopters who are happy to continue his training but in the right environment he will certainly blossom. Photo: Dogs Trust
11. Onyx and his handler are selfie masters
Onyx is a gorgeous Lurcher who loves his walkies and whilst out on a woodland adventure, his handlers managed to capture this fantastic selfie! He has a few training needs but he's making good progress since arriving with Dogs Trust. He is looking for adopters who are looking for a bit of a training project as he's shown that this is something he really enjoys, and the training team will happily help and guide you throughout the transition to a new home.
