A huge new £40m waterpark is coming to the UK

A brand new £40 million waterpark is on the cards for the UK, with its own surf pool and beach.

Located in Southport, Merseyside, this new attraction - named Southport Cove Resort - will be open all year round and include both indoor and outdoor experiences.

The new project will feature a 250 metre long sandy beach, a 360 degree boardwalk and gardens, reports Lancs Live.

There will also be a surf pool, suitable for both beginners and experienced surfers, using technology in order to create a variety of waves, ranging from two to 50 metres high.

The waterpark will be located on the Southport seafront, with a host of restaurants and cafes, an indoor leisure centre and a spa centre also included in the project.

For those who want to make the most of what the park has to offer by spending a few days there, there will also be four star accommodation available as part of the new venture, according to developers.

When will the new water park open?

The project has been put forward by Go Surf, which has teamed up with Sefton Council, but an opening date has not yet been confirmed.

A Go Surf spokesperson said, "We’re taking a world class surf pool and building a resort around it that’s far more than just a place for catching waves, something that all visitors and members can enjoy on any given day of the year.

"Our aim is to create a perfect environment where people meet with friends and family, be it to lounge on the beach or in the gardens, catch some waves, relax in the spa, or just grab a coffee and a bite to eat."

The project hopes to create up to 120 new jobs and bring in over £20 million per annum to the local economy. Go Surf also expects around 150,000 visitors a year.

Councillor Marion Atkinson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said, "This project will, in many ways, bring back a viable facility with all year-round broad visitor appeal, and strike a balance between the memory of this well-loved former attraction and a new, modern, family-oriented offer that will be unique to the region."
