The curtain is raised on life around the suburb in the 1930s with the Western Talkie cinema which welcomed generations of movie-goers. It is one of 12 photo memories charting 10 years in the community. Other landmarks featured include an bird’s eye view of the prison as well as Town Street and Armley Road. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
