5. Damien Hirst
Bristol-born artist Damien Hirst grew up in Leeds and went to the city's Allerton Grange School. He became famous for a series of artworks in which dead animals are preserved, sometimes having been dissected, in formaldehyde.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is a former pupil of Roundhay School. Her dad was a professor of pure mathematics at the University of Leeds.

Former Labour party leader Ed Miliband went to Featherbank Infant School in Horsforth with brother David in the early-1970s. He is pictured on a visit to his former school in October 2011.

8. Angela Griffin
Actress and TV presenter Angela Griffin is a former pupil of Intake High School in Bramley, dubbed Leeds's own school of fame. Her TV credits include Coronation Street, Holby City, Cutting It, Waterloo Road and Netflix series White Lines.
