It was the year a cultural gem in the heart of the city centre was in need of some tender loving care.
The cost of refurbishment at Leeds City Varieties Music Hall was put at more than £300,000. The city's oldest working theatre needed 560 seats replacing, dressing rooms upgraded as well as electrical rewiring and major roof repairs to prevent damp. This was 1991, a year which featured a visit to the city by Diana, Princess of Wales and Leeds United heading into the recording studio.
