The main image is sure to be familiar to generations of swimmers and book-worms – the public swimming baths and library on York Road. Other landmarks featured include shops on York Road and pubs such as the Fleece Inn. The gallery is made up of 12 images which are all published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks. Pictured on the south side of York Road, from left, are The Simpsons Arms, a Tetley public house, landlord John Hanmore at number 4; then number 4A, occupying the upper storey of the building premises is J.Brayshaw and sons, wholesale clothiers. Number 2A is a double fronted chemist's shop, J.Lancaster and son. At number 2, John Grayshon has a pork butchers. On the right, at the junction and addressed as Marsh Lane, is Junction Clothing Stores run by Sidney Mathers, Outfitter. This occupies numbers 116, 118 and 120 on the south-east side.
