A row of back-to-back terraced houses numbers on Thornton Place in August 1958. On the far left is a shared outside toilet block. Clothes hang from a line extending from outside number 6. At the end of the row on the right a large poster recruits men to become 'A soldier of the Queen, Join the New Regular Army, a real mans life!'. On the right is number 70 Armley Road, a gable end shop and cafe, serving tea while selling a variety of cigarettes. On the far right is Artist Street where a sign shows the location of Leigh Lineham and Co Ltd Provision Merchants. Photo: West Yorkshire Archive Service
