Pudsey trio Caroline Bond, Linda Spurr, and Sam Armitage, will run their own half marathon route around their hometown on September 13, to raise cash for Leeds Weekend Care Association and Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice.

The first provides local weekend and evening social clubs for children aged five to 18, who have additional needs.

Wheatfields Hospice provides expert palliative care for people with life-limiting conditions, and support for loved ones and families.

Both charities are close to the group’s hearts; Caroline and her daughter were helped by Leeds Weekend Care Association, and Wheatfields supported Linda and her late husband, Greg Wood.

Caroline said: “I’m concerned about how the lack of mass events due to the pandemic is decimating the vital income that flows into charities. Without Weekenders our life as a family would’ve been much harder. Weekenders will always mean a lot to me and it means a huge amount to the children and families it supports.”

Linda said: “Wheatfield’s Hospice provided love and support for myself and my late husband Greg at the worst time of our lives. I want to raise money to ensure that other families have that essential, sustaining support.

“Wheatfields are desperately short of funds this year and if I can play my small part I am happy to. Though the thought of the hills around Pudsey is a little daunting!”

Both charities expressed their gratitude for the support.
