Families affected by childhood cancer need support more than ever right now. So the charity Candlelighters is launching its Big Night In to attract funds and help build a sum of £525,000.

It’s a party night, with games, a play list and menu ideas, plus a live feed from Candlelighters as it all gets underway on April 3. Donations will be made to the ‘Candlelighters Together Tin’ via easy links.

Head of fundraising, Leanne Windell, said: “You can help to keep our candle burning and bring light to families affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire, by taking part in the Big Night In and donating to our Together Tin. Every penny really does count."

The Big Night In is on April 3 from 5pm, with people encouraged to donate money they might have spent on a night out.

To be involved, you could dress up and cook a slap up three course meal, order a takeaway and watch a favourite film, or turn up the music, and dance around the lounge on Facetime to friends.

Workplaces can organise a virtual Friday night drink at 5pm- get linked up on Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Skype, and raise a glass to each other, donating what they might have spent on a drink with colleagues.

Becky Thompson, whose little girl Summer was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, in January 2017, said: “Families are going to need Candlelighters more than ever to get through the next few months. They might feel alone, scared and vulnerable, but the support Candlelighters are hoping to provide would make the world of difference.”
